This ReadMe provides last-minute information regarding QuarkImmedia™ Viewer 1.5. This document also contains instructions for downloading QuarkImmedia Viewer from the Quark™ Web site, installing QuarkImmedia Viewer on your machine, and using QuarkImmedia Viewer to view QuarkImmedia projects.

What is QuarkImmedia Viewer?
QuarkImmedia Viewer is a stand-alone application that lets you interact with QuarkImmedia projects from a local CD-ROM or hard disk or over the Internet. You do not have to have QuarkImmedia, QuarkXPress™, or QuarkXPress Passport™ to use QuarkImmedia Viewer.
Downloading QuarkImmedia Viewer
Go to the Quark Web site at http://www.quark.com. Click on the “Products” tab at the top of the page and select “QuarkImmedia.” Find the “Download Viewers, Demos, and Updaters” link, select “QuarkImmedia Viewer,” and click the QuarkImmedia Viewer you would like to download (Mac OS or Windows).
Complete the process by following the instructions for your browser (below).
Mac OS
Netscape Navigator 4.0
After the files are downloaded, Netscape 4.0 will automatically decompress the files and place them in the QuarkImmedia Viewer 1.5 folder on your desktop.
If you do not have a decompression utility installed on your machine, Netscape will ask you if you would like to save the compressed file. If you choose to save, the file miv15ie.hqx will be placed on your desktop. You will need to install a decompression utility (such as StuffIt Expander) on your machine to decompress this file before you can use QuarkImmedia Viewer.

Internet Explorer 4.0 and America Online 3.01
After the download has been initiated, a Download Manager dialog box and progress bar appears.
When the download is complete, the self-extracting archive file miv15ie.sea is placed on your desktop. Double-click this file and follow the instructions on your screen to extract the files. By default, the extracted files will be placed in the QuarkImmedia Viewer 1.5 folder on your desktop, but if you want you can select a location in which to place them.

Windows
Netscape Navigator 4.0
1. In the Save As dialog box, select where you would like to download the compressed QuarkImmedia Viewer files. Click Save. (By default the files will be downloaded to c:\Program Files\Netscape\Communicator\Program.)
2. Go to the location specified in the Save As dialog box (above). Double-click wiv15ie.exe and follow the instructions on the screen to decompress the downloaded files. By default the files will be decompressed to the QuarkImmedia Viewer 1.5 folder on your desktop.
3. It is recommended to complete the installation process by following the steps outlined in “Installing QuarkImmedia” (next section).
Internet Explorer 4.0 and America Online 4.0
1. When the File Download dialog box appears, select “Save this program to disk.” Click OK.
2. A Save As dialog box will appear. Select the location where you would like to save the compressed QuarkImmedia Viewer files. Click Save. By default, Internet Explorer will put your files in the same directory as your compression utility.
3. When the download is complete, click OK.
4. Find the compressed QuarkImmedia Viewer file, wiv15ie.exe, on your hard drive. Double-click the file and follow the instructions on your screen to decompress the compressed files.
5. When decompression is complete, click OK.
6. The QuarkImmedia Viewer is located in the QuarkImmedia Viewer 1.5 folder on your desktop.

Installing QuarkImmedia Viewer
Mac OS
Drag-copy the QuarkImmedia Viewer for Mac OS folder to your desktop from the QuarkImmedia CD-ROM or follow the instructions above to download QuarkImmedia Viewer from the Quark Web site.
See “Using QuarkImmedia Viewer” (below) for instructions on how to use the application.
Windows
1. Drag-copy the QuarkImmedia Viewer for Windows folder to your desktop from the QuarkImmedia CD-ROM or follow the instructions above to download QuarkImmedia Viewer from the Quark Web site.
2. Double-click the Install.exe icon in the QuarkImmedia Viewer 1.5 folder on your desktop. Follow the instructions on the screen. If you would like to install to a folder and location other than the default, click Customize.
3. After installation is complete, click OK.
For instructions on how to use the application, see “Using QuarkImmedia Viewer” (below).
Installing QuickTime for Mac OS and Windows
To view QuarkImmedia projects you will need QuickTime 3.0 installed on your machine. You will find the QuickTime installer in the QuickTime folder on the QuarkImmedia 1.5 CD-ROM or you can download QuickTime from the Apple Web site at http://www.apple.com.
Using QuarkImmedia Viewer
Launch QuarkImmedia Viewer by double-clicking its icon. Note: If you are using an upgraded version of QuarkImmedia Viewer see “Opening Projects Using an Upgraded QuarkImmedia Viewer” (below).
To connect to a Web site created using QuarkImmedia, choose View –> Show Internet Controls to display the QuarkImmedia Internet Controls palette if it is hidden, and then click the Home button.
To quit viewing a QuarkImmedia project, press Command-Q or F15 (Mac OS) or Ctrl-Q or F12 (Windows).
To improve the performance of the Mac OS version of QuarkImmedia Viewer, select the application icon in the Finder; choose Get Info from the File menu; and increase the memory allocation for the program.

Opening Projects Using an Upgraded QuarkImmedia Viewer
If you have upgraded your version of QuarkImmedia Viewer, both the old and new QuarkImmedia Viewer files may be present on your computer. Having both sets of files present may cause a problem when you open QuarkImmedia projects. If you attempt to open a project by double-clicking its icon, the older version of QuarkImmedia Viewer may be launched or you may receive an error message and be unable to open the project. To avoid these problems, open your projects by: 1) Choosing File –> Open, or 2) Drag-copying the QuarkImmedia project’s icon onto the QuarkImmedia Viewer icon.
Making QuarkImmedia Viewer Work with Your HTML Browser
QuarkImmedia Viewer will work seamlessly with your HTML compatible browser as long as both the browser and QuarkImmedia Viewer are configured properly.
Instructions for configuring Netscape 4.0 and Internet Explorer 4.0 to work with QuarkImmedia Viewer can be found under “TechNotes” in the Technical Support area of the Quark Web site at http://www.quark.com. Refer to your browser’s online documentation for the most up-to-date information on configuring your browser to work with other applications.
To configure QuarkImmedia Viewer to work with your HTML Browser:
Mac OS
1. Launch QuarkImmedia Viewer.
2. Choose Edit –> Preferences –> Internet to display the Internet Preferences dialog box.
3. In the WWW Browser section, click Specify to display the Select a Browser dialog box.
4. Locate your browser and click Open.
5. Click OK to complete configuration of QuarkImmedia Viewer.
Go to the location specified above for instructions on how to configure your HTML browser to hand off QuarkImmedia projects to QuarkImmedia Viewer.
Windows
1. Launch QuarkImmedia Viewer.
2. Choose Edit –> Preferences –> Internet to display the Internet Preferences dialog box.
3. Next to WWW Browser click Specify to display the Specify Internet Browser dialog box.
4. Locate your browser and click Open.
5. Click OK to complete configuration of QuarkImmedia Viewer.
Go to the location specified above for instructions on how to configure your HTML browser to hand off QuarkImmedia projects to QuarkImmedia Viewer.
Important Note to CompuServe Users
If you use CompuServe for Mac OS, see CompuServe’s online instructions for configuring a PPP connection, which will allow you to use Internet applications such as QuarkImmedia Viewer.
Known Problems
Mac OS
The 68K Mac OS version of QuarkImmedia Viewer uses Apple SANE libraries that are not fully compliant with IEEE 754 computing standards. This means that if you are running the 68K version of QuarkImmedia Viewer, you may see limitations in its ability to process large numbers or numbers with large decimal components. Note: This limitation applies only to QuarkImmedia projects that use expressions.
Windows
Netscape Navigator
If you open a link to a QuarkImmedia site in Netscape Navigator, QuarkImmedia Viewer may fail to open and an error message will display stating that QuarkImmedia could not locate the specified browser. If this is happening, QuarkImmedia Viewer may not be configured properly to work with Netscape Navigator 4.0. To configure QuarkImmedia Viewer to work with your browser, select “Netscape Navigator” in the Internet Preferences dialog box (Edit –> Preferences –> Internet).
Internet Explorer 4.0
Opening a link to a QuarkImmedia site in Internet Exporer 4.0, may cause your browser to quit unexpectedly. To avoid this problem, open QuarkImmedia Viewer and enter the URL for the QuarkImmedia site you would like to open in the Visit field on the QuarkImmedia Internet Controls palette.
Note: These problems are most common with browsers operating on Windows 98.
